A thin blue stripe will be the little extra for this down to earth black and white
stripe BMW. A bike getting a new fuel tank spurred a full paint and seat renew. |

The 3 lines will be under the clear and a bit thinner than factory size so we can put 3 in the same space as 2..

After the parts are cleaned, preped, and primed they are painted black on the undersides and white goes on top first for the white stripes.
Then a photoshoped clip of the desired pattern is taken from the picture so it can be printed onto paper and then projected onto the tank. The flash won't let the line show but it is a guide to tape out the outline that will be refined by eye from this starting point |

Now a templet is made from the first line and can be fliped over so a reverse image can be a guide to get both sides the same. Now all the lines can be gauged and measured from a known starting point.

And time is taken to look at colors. As with most custom projects featured here the bike owner is in control and involved every step of the way via emailed pictures and the online shop webcam.

Sad to hear of a mishap with this bike when checking in to see that the paint is holding up at one year.. Heres a return e-mail that I'm sure the rider won't mind me posting,,
to Milogarage show details Nov 28 (4 days ago) ![]() milo Great to hear from you. Sort of. I’ve spent the week trying to figure out a way of coming clean. Can’t do it. The paint is amazing. Not so much as a scratch!. But I guess they just don’t make BMW’s like they used to. After 40 years on two wheels without ever going down I fed the Max-Blue-Black to HST’s Sausage Creature last April (!April-Fools-Day!) and haven’t seen it since except in some sorrowful grainy black and whites of shattered forks, twisted frames, broken engine casings. Interestingly, the paint wasn’t touched. Flawless. Classic case. Blind entrance to Lafayette Street. Kids in a Mitsubishi Eclipse pull across the lane. Personally, I remember nothing, but I’m told (the investigating officer was very complimentary) I had time enough to do nothing more than t-bone the driver’s door. Reconfigured it somewhat rudely. 30mph-to-Zero in 8 inches. No one in the car hurt, thankfully. With a little titanium, a competent vertebrectomy, and some good Irish, I’m all healed and doing fine, but I’m afraid riding days are, for now, history. Sad that I took such poor care of your exceptional work. But the gas tank does make a splendid table lamp. Paintwork still looks Great! Hope you too are doing well. And, I remain deeply appreciative of your fine and patient work. Best, Joe
