Up next for Halloween A new color scheme for this Honda ... orange and black As usual I'll post steps starting with some E-mail outakes to show early design phases.
Many of the bike projects featured here are designed by the owners on their computers. Then through e-mails they are refined and they develope to eventauly make thier way here and to the paint gun. Taking pictures and posting of the steps and procedures has always helped the hobby and the project as well as others who have projects still on the drawing board. ![]() Heres how this bikes owner has helped with the theme and design . E-mail C/P >>>Amazing thread. I'm impressed with the number of posts and the detailed exchange between you two. Wow. I've seen it in person so I knew the final result but none of the work. Okay, down to business: FIRST: Price is exactly what I hoped it would be. so we are fine on that. give or take, I am happy to pay that up front or after or during whatever you prefer. SECOND: yes, some pieces are new, some are old and slightly rashed. I don't know if you estimated making those pieces smooth as part of the project, let me know. THIRD: All of the decals on the plastic are NOT under CLEARCOAT. But, the decals (honda wings / little yellow stripes near bottom rear) on the tank are clearcoated, I believe - ONLY THE TANK. I have actually removed several decals myself with WD 40 and hairspray from the plastics pieces. FOURTH: I originally thought, NO WHEELS, but I would like to know, what would you need? If I gave you the wheels with tires still on and sprocket, etc, would you be able to do it? I am not prepared to take the wheels to that stripped down state. (but, otherwise, if not required, then I would consider the wheels [if so, I would likely want them the same color, either glossy black or orange] we'll talk about that. FIFTH: I was fully decided but have become a bit wishy washy on the color scheme. For sure, I want orange and black. I was inspired by the REPSOL HONDA race bike, but not the exact scheme. For example I don't like the red on the bike. THREE IDEAS: [for all, solid color, no decals, designs, etc.] (open to suggestion) #1: TANK painted BLACK, but everything else orange, All orange plastic (frt fairing and lowers, fender, and rear side covers) , #2: All black in front and lowers and sides, orange tank, orange front fender, orange rear side covers. #3: All black in front / front fender orange / sides and lowers orange / tank black / and orange rear side covers [this maybe the most complicated scheme] SIXTH: I have a crappy piece of beat up black rubbery plastic that serves as my rear hugger, there is no aftermarket for my year of bike. Is it possible to make it look smooth and glossy black. I took off the decals and scored the plastic some more doing it. I will also look on the internet for pics of bikes that inspire me. .. >> >> >> |

>> >> Good energy Steve, I enjoy posting projects , it keeps it fun and helps others who are interested in the craft. You'll like the webcam as things go through thier process, prep , prime , paint , polish . It's like you get to be a part of by cliking a mouse... Heres from last week. http://www.a2zautoforums.com/showthread.php?t=3765 ... I'll be sure and post yours the same of course..It's the best part for me too. I like looking back at the projects when their done too. On the wheels , I wasn;t trying to push you to paint them and in fact they may work well with the black/orange as they are. The thing with wheels is getting them oil free. Paint doesn't do well around any speck of oil. The tires can stay on but the weights are a issue. I'm flexable to your wishes in every respect so it's up to you. might be best to wait and see on the wheels cause you could always change them later .. I like all the ideas except I'm fuzzy about your # SIXTH lol... Again good project energy from you,,,,. Let's refine your design and even mock up a pic or two as well as track down the excact orange. There is a good link to look at colors at www.cyclecolor.com Remember this is big time fun for me and should be for you too. Designing can be fulfilling or tough depending, its where you get to help. I have a couple commitments this month but now am thinking of your project and energy and now have it on my hand written agenda board till we nail a time that's good for both. The weather is still good for ridin but I'm ready starting next week ,mid week or when it's best for you. looking forward but let's not rush a design,

>> >> Thanks for your response. #1 - Wheels, okay agreed, no wheels for this project. #2 - You are fuzzy on SIXTH because I am fuzzy. I was clear until about a week ago, then I started thinking of new design possibilities. I spent 3 hours last night looking at custom paint jobs to see if I could find a pattern that appealed to me. If you have any suggestions for sport bike with finished design pics, I'd like to view them. #3 - Timeline -- okay, sounds like we are going to get started within a week or so. It seems that a week or a week and a half would not be too soon to have me deliver the parts to you. Best for me would be maybe midweek the week after next. You are right. Exciting! - It seems like I have at least 2 weeks to come up with PRECISE design requests to discuss with you. I have downloaded a few orange bike photos, but I'll wait until I'm sure which is right from me. I vacillate between bright neon orange and burnt rust orange. I'll eventually be decisive. I am artistically challenged and welcome any help in the mock up area. After I have all the pieces ready for delivery, (at least a week) I'll let you know |

>> >> Hi Steve, I'm glad to hear your project is lineing up for you. I've been thinking a bit of your orange and kinda like the color in the sketch though ubderstand its a mock up in progress for now. It works well with black and is tastefull. Is the hugger fender textured to the touch or smooth.. Just curious..no worries though it can be painted.. Be carefull when drilling the rivits so they don't get to hot by spinning and melting. I can remove them for you if you like. maybe you don't want to disconnect that hose I don't know but want to help. Hey did you see last weeks project? http://www.a2zautoforums.com/showthread.php?t=3782 .. This week I'll be bodyworking great big fenders from a 1929 Willys Knight be sure to see the web cam updates lol.. I'm flexable to whats comfortable for you on getting the parts from you >> >>

Yep got it and kinda posted it a few posts back ,, What do you think about carrying the stripe onto the front fender and the rear panels??
Just a thought ![]() |

Well, darn . . . yeah, that sounds trick!
I like the idea of carrying the stripe backwards (the whole stripe should be narrower if we do that), carrying it forward worries me, I will have to try to visualize it. The original scheme had lame bolts coming backwards from the front at the headlight, I disliked them so much that I took them off; And it took me about a full day to do it. Also, I'm pretty sure that I don't want a stripe on the front wheel fender. But, of course, I'm open to suggestion. |

Excellent, All the pieces arrived in good shape. There is a couple normal wear marks here and there. I only found he tinyest ding in the tank.
What seems like the last thing to worry about is what to figure first Among the first things to do "popsicle all the parts. Each part has to have it's way to be mounted so it can be moved and sprayed at all angles yet not touched.. Nows the time before they are to clean to be handled.

I'll put up some more in a sec . I got all the decals off, I'm thinking the original panels will be better than drilling more holes ..
