Here's a Triumph project that was to mimic a 1969 Bonneville paint scheme on a spanking new 2004 Triumph.
The owner wanted the colors from back in the day. We never met person to person until his bike was done and he picked it up at the dealership. It was then that he drove it by for some put together pics .Heres a quick look at a few e-mails that went back and forth to pull this one off. >:Service dept Calmoto........................................... .......................... >I send you a set of sample pictures for the paint job we have talked about. The main colour I would like is Cardinal Red, the one featured on the standard 03/04 Bonneville. Then I would like the infill colour Aztec Gold, of the type featured on the 04 T100 Bonneville whose main colour is Greenwood Green(I include a picture of this model), and then, last, silver coachlines. The drawing for the paint would be the one for the 68-69-70 T120 Bonneville. The picture that resembles most closely what I would have in mind is the one associated with the file called "43234076_1.jpeg". I also send you other pictures that could possibly help the painter. Thanks a lot, and please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions. My office number is 415-XXX3244 and my cell phone number is 646-XXX-7511. Best, Michele >Hi Milo, >here I send you some of the drawings I made. The higher the number on >the file name, the closer the drawing to what I have in mind. I also >include a picture of a real bonneville, the kind I have in mind. >please let me know what you think. >thanks very much <Hi Michele, here's some pics for you to work with if you feel there <should be a change other than the colors. The closer we can leave the <lines where they are the easier it will be. It was good to talk/meet you <on the phone. I look forward to helping you with your project, <Milo >Hi Milo, >it was nice also to me to talk with you on the phone. I talked with the >guys at the dealer and it turns out that they do not have the tank >badge I have in mind, and they would have order that from Georgia. They >may >take a couple of days to arrive. Tomorrow I'll speak again with them >and I'll be able to be more specific with you. >And thanks for the pictures, I do not think we'll have to go very far >from where the lines already are. My best guess is that when you'll have >the badge we'll be able to define the lines precisely. I'll try in any >case to make some drawings on the picture you already sent me. >Many thanks again and I talk to you soon. >Best, >Michele Hey, Milo thanks for the pics...they look great...what a great job you did......I look forward to the link on the Bonneville you'll put on the web. There were 3 different colors going on here. Cardinal Red, Aztec Gold and silver stripe between. It was critical where the stripe was to meet the badge.

Once that was sorted the parts were cleaned of cosmoline and lightly scuff preped. PPG's DBU silver went on the tank first later to become the silver stripes. It was taped with 1/4 inch tape and followed with the gold. Finally the red was sprayed then all the masking was removed and clearcoated. The fenders were easy since they were 1 color.

I didn't take pictures of the silver or the gold being masked off but you could have seen it live that afternoon if you clicked on the current project cam..
Once focused I forget to get pictures sometimes ![]() |

After a few hours with the buffer they were good to go. The bike ended up with that old school classic look. !
Hats off to our friends at Cal BMW Triumph http://www.calmoto.com/
