This lesson was learned from letting it sit and charge a battery to long. The bike over heated when left at idle sitting still. The plastic got so hot it boiled.

The paint it's self held up good considering what it went through.
A must is to remember to keep air cooled bikes moving There is a couple of little pieces that tuck inside on both sides.

What does the fix involve??? Is it replacing the damaged part and painting??? I wouldn't think that it would be easy, or even possible, to fix plastic like you can do with sheet metal. Also, how long was it left sitting still at idle???

The engine wasn't hurt from what I understand lucky this time. This is the first time I ever saw anything like that , I'm gonna see if we can save it. The repair is in a good place to blend inside that bodyline keeping it " less is better" and would be the best way to rescue this bike. It's silver and even a factory new silver panel wouldn't match the age and sun tint that's going on here.
I like it cause it's the first time for me on boiled plastic You know how I like to experiment and keep things a hobby. If I knew how this will turn out I'd be bored with it already ![]()

Took down the boiled up plastic with a die grinder at first and then 80 grit.

And when they are blown clean with air all the bubbles that were sanded in half leave "pin" holes.

Bumper Patch, a product from Sem. It mixes just like other fillers and it likes plastics. Not sure how much heat it can take but with the savings instead of new parts we decided to see how it will hold out. Experimenting is the flux of keeping it a hobby.

One more thin coat and some more sanding befoer primer. There were a couple high spots that did need to be ground down before the next coat.
about the same as metal filler , http://www.a2zautoforums.com/showth...s=&threadid=936
