Default Quarterpnl Rust Fix(mercedes)

One of the best ways to deal with rust is to cut it out.
Templets are our friend...

First thing to do is tape exactly what is needed to removed, around corners too. It's hard to see in the picture but thats masking tape detailing what will be the patch panel with plenty of solid healthy metal past the rust.. Then this tape is removed as one piece and transfered to the patch piece.

Heres the transfered tape templet stuck onto a junk door I found . I'll use a scrap Porsche door cause of the thick German metal and a curve that looks right or close.

Then we just screw that straight to the car as a temporary guide. We'll build and shape almost everything on the car BEFORE we cut the car.

With the car holding the new piece true , rounding the wheel opening is straight forward. Because we taped around the corner we have enough metal.

Next make the cut with the patch still screwed to the car. The cut off wheel thickness will assure some relief or space to tune the final fit

With the new panel rough shaped it's unscrewed from the car and worked on the bench.
