Here's PPG's computer match or "Prophet" (picture taking) color match system. This takes measurment of the color and only needs 3 flat square inches. Many times I send a gas cover over to the paint store and that's enough. In this case I took them the car so we could get more than one shot of the color from different parts of the panel.

Here samples from three different places are taken . He just holds that gizmo on the panel for about 20 seconds as it takes 5 different "snap shots " of the colors that generate a formula to mix.
