Default BMW GS plastic fuel tank paint scheme ..

These 2 tone projects are always fun. Heres a plastic fuel tank getting the same colors as the metal tank we have on hand for a pattern. We'll use PPG's NCP 280 epoxy primer and it's 285 hardner on the 180 grit preped plastic to help level things a bit. These plastic tanks are always wavey blocking will go a long way towards rounding them up smooth,
The colors have been made in PPG's DBU and will be cleared with PPG's DCD35 clear.> Here are the BMW paint codes:
>
> Pacific Blue 411
>
> Alpine white 146
>
> BMW also lists the black edging between the Blue and White as "2mm"
> black tape.
>
> Decals have been ordered.

Backing the 400 grit paper up with a block is the way to control how it cuts the surface even.

On first goes the color that'll show the least, in this case white...

Useing masking tape tripled up to make a quick guide templete. The plastic tank is bigger so this will just be a guide that will get cuts to help size. If everywhere gets at least 3 layers of tape it'll keep shape when taken on and off.

Tapeing the sticky side a little will help unstick things and make it easier to handle.

Mask on the lines and spray some blue.
and then pull the tape as soon as you can so it doesn't mark up the fresh paint.

Now it's clear coated with PPG"s DCD-35 clear and DFX-11 hardner and a tad of DT1865 reducer to help it flow.
Another day and it'll be ready for it's black pin stripe and decal...

After letting things cure a couple days we can polish and stripe and decal. To soon and the decal can get bubbles from the curing paint. First a quick wet sand with 2000 grit.
